Amos
The "Old Covenant" Sabbath would end according to prophecy.
Proof:
Amos 8:5
The "Sabbath" spoken of is the Sabbatical Year and not the weekly Shabbat.
Leviticus 25:1-7: (1) And the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, (2) Speak to the children of Israel and you shall say to them: When you come to the land that I am giving you, the land shall rest a Sabbath to the Lord. (3) You may sow your field for six years, and for six years you may prune your vineyard, and gather in its produce, (4) But in the seventh year, the land shall have a complete rest a Sabbath to the Lord; you shall not sow your field, nor shall you prune your vineyard. (5) You shall not reap the aftergrowth of your harvest, and you shall not pick the grapes you had set aside [for yourself], [for] it shall be a year of rest for the land. (6) And [the produce of] the Sabbath of the land shall be yours to eat for you, for your male and female slaves, and for your hired worker and resident who live with you, (7) And all of its produce may be eaten [also] by your domestic animals and by the beasts that are in your land.
The darkness during the crucifixion.
Prophecy:
Amos 8:9-10
Proof:
Matthew 27:45; Luke 23:44-45; Mark 15:33
This entire chapter is a vision given to Amos which is speaking about disasters that would occur. This verse uses darkness as a metaphor for a sudden disaster during prosperous times. This has been regarded as a prophecy regarding the death of King Josiah.
II Chronicles 35:23-24: (23) And the archers shot at King Josiah, and the king said to his servants, "Take me away, for I am sorely stricken!" (24) And his servants took him away from the chariot, and they put him into his second chariot and brought him to Jerusalem, and he died and was buried in the graves of his forefathers, and all of Judah and Jerusalem were mourning for Josiah.
The festivals here are a reference to the time when all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
II Chronicles 35:24-25: (24) And his servants took him away from the chariot, and they put him into his second chariot and brought him to Jerusalem, and he died and was buried in the graves of his forefathers, and all of Judah and Jerusalem were mourning for Josiah. (25) And Jeremiah lamented Josiah, and all the male and female singers spoke of Josiah in their lamentations until this day, and they made them a statute over Israel, and behold, they are written in the lamentations.
The sun is a reference to the kingdom of the house of David which is compared to the sun.
Psalm 89:37: His seed will be forever and his throne is like the sun before Me.
Isaiah
People were deaf to Jesus’ words. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 6:9-12
Proof:
Matthew 13:13-15; Acts 28:23-29
Hashem is speaking specifically to Isaiah.
Verse 9 reads “Go and say to this people”. You can plainly see that Hashem is commanding Isaiah to go to a specific people. This is obviously not a prophecy for a future messiah and a future people.
What are these verses talking about? They are talking about how the people who are in Isaiah’s time have seen miracles from Hashem yet the people did not strive to know Hashem. The people intend to not listen to the words of the prophets due to fear. However, there will be a time that they will repent and return to Hashem. Unfortunately, the repentance will not come until the Land has expelled them and they languish in exile.
Jesus was born of a virgin.
Prophecy:
Isaiah 7:14
Proof:
Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:35
The word used is translated as young maiden and not virgin and the young maiden (or young woman). Almah means a young woman of marriageable age and has nothing to do with being a virgin or not.
Jewish Translation - Psalm 68:26: Singers went first, minstrels afterwards, in the midst of maidens (הָעַלְמָה) playing timbrels.
Christian Translation - Psalm 68:26: The singers went before, the players on instruments [followed] after; Among [them were] the maidens (הָעַלְמָה) playing timbrels.
The Hebrew term for virgin is betulah.
Jewish Translation - Isaiah 23:4: Be ashamed, for the sea said, the stronghold of the sea, saying, "I have not travailed, nor have I borne, neither have I reared young men nor have I raised virgins (בְתוּלוֹת)."
Christian Translation - Isaiah 23:4: Be ashamed, O Sidon; For the sea has spoken, The strength of the sea, saying, "I do not labor, nor bring forth children; Neither do I rear young men, [Nor] bring up virgins (בְתוּלוֹת)."
The Greek word parthenos (παρθένος) used in Matthew 1:23 can mean virgin but it can also mean maiden. The Greek word is ambiguous but the Hebrew term is absolute.
Some Christian Old Testaments state that young maiden is the proper translation.
Isaiah 7:14: Well then, the Lord himself will give you a sign; a young woman who is pregnant will have a son and will name him ‘Immanual’. (Good News Bible, Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1976)
Footnote: The Hebrew word here translated “young woman” is not the particular term for “virgin,” but refers to any young woman of marriageable age. The use of “virgin” in Matthew 1:23 reflects a Greek translation of the Old Testament made some 500 years after Isaiah.
Isaiah 7:14: The Lord will give you a sign in any case: It is this: the young woman is with child and will give birth to a son whom she will call Immanuel. (The New Jerusalem Bible Reader’s Edition, Doubleday, 1990)
Footnote: Perhaps Ahaz’s wife, about to give birth to Hezekiah, but Isaiah sees it as symbolic of the fulfillment of royal messianic prophecies. For ‘young woman’ Greek read ‘virgin’, interpreted by Matthew of Mary.
Isaiah 7:14: Therefore Adonai himself will give you people a sign: the young woman will become pregnant, bear a son and name him ‘Immanu El [God is with us].’ (The Complete Jewish Bible, Jewish New Testament Publications, 1998)
Footnote: The Hebrew word ‘almah in Isaiah 7:14 means “a young woman,” and in the context of the Tanakh always “a young woman of unsullied reputation,” which is why the Jewish translators of the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Tanakh prepared 200 years before Yeshua’s birth, rendered this word into Greek as parthenos, “virgin”; this is the word used in Mattituahu 1:23.
The Christian Scriptures mistranslate this verse to make it appear as if it were a future prophecy (with regards to the pregnancy). We can plainly see that she was pregnant at the time of this prophecy.
Jewish: Therefore, the Lord, of His own, shall give you a sign; behold, the young woman is with child, and she shall bear a son, and she shall call his name Immanuel.
Christian: Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
The prophecy is not about the virginity or non-virginity of the woman nor is the prophecy about the birth. In reality, the prophecy is what will happen during the child's life.
Isaiah 7:14-16: (14) Therefore, the Lord, of His own, shall give you a sign; behold, the young woman is with child, and she shall bear a son, and she shall call his name Immanuel. (15) Cream and honey he shall eat when he knows to reject bad and choose good. (16) For, when the lad does not yet know to reject bad and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread, shall be abandoned."
Jesus was not named Immanuel.
The name Immanuel means God is with us. There is no problem with such a name within the Jewish context. There are many names with similar meanings such as Michah which means Who is Like Hashem.
Jesus’ name most likely was Yehoshua – Joshua. This name means the Lord is salvation. This is not the same as God is with us.
The child spoken of in Isaiah is the son of King Ahaz or, alternatively, a child of Isaiah. This prophecy was already fulfilled.
II Kings 15:30: And Hoshea the son of Elah revolted against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and he struck him and slew him, and reigned in his stead, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.
II Kings 16:9: And the king of Assyria heeded him, and the king of Assyria went up to Damascus and seized it, and exiled [its inhabitants] to Kir, and he slew Rezin.
The child is already born and spoken of in the very next chapter.
Isaiah 8:4: For, when the lad does not yet know to call, 'Father' and 'mother,' the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria shall be carried off before the king of Assyria."
Jesus was a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 8:14-15
Proof:
I Peter 2:8
This is a prophecy about Shebna and Pekah who plotted to overthrow the kingdom of the House of David.
The stone and the rock are references to stumbling. Shebna’s and Pekah’s stumbling will cause them to be destroyed instead of Jerusalem.
Upon the stone and rock, these two and their companions shall fall into the hands of their enemies. Pekah was assassinated by Hoshea. The ten tribes fell into the hands of Sennacherib. Shebna went out of Jerusalem when Sennacherib abandoned it to march on the king of Cush.
Jesus was a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 8:23-9:1
Proof:
Matthew 4:12-17
This is referring to Hashem dealing mildly by exiling Zebulun and Naphtali.
The verse in chapter nine that refers to a “light” is speaking about the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who were darkened by their concern of falling into the hands of Sennacherib. When Sennacherib was defeated light shone upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
This is an example of a very convoluted and complete extraction of verses out of context to try and force a messianic prophecy into verses that have nothing to do with the true Moshiach.
Jesus was the literal son of Hashem with power. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:5
Proof:
Luke 1:32; John 1:14; I Timothy 3:16; Romans 1:3-4
This prophecy was about Hezekiah.
Jewish translation: For a child has been born to us, a son given to us, and the authority is upon his shoulder, and the wondrous adviser, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, called his name, "the prince of peace."
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJV)
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NIV)
For a son has been born for us, a son has been given to us, and dominion has been laid on his shoulders; and this is the name he has been given, ‘Wonder-Counsellor, Mighty-God, Eternal-Father, Prince of Peace’ (The New Jerusalem Bible)
We see from the correct translation of the verse in Isaiah that this verse refers to a person already born at the time of the prophecy – not some to be born hundreds of years later. We also see that the authority was already placed upon his shoulder – not authority of a future time.
In addition, his name was already given to him – this is not the name of a future person.
This prophecy was about Hezekiah – Ahaz’s son – who would become king.
Hezekiah’s role was to bring Judah back from their wickedness and lead the righteous remnant. This verse speaks of the wonders that Hashem did for Hezekiah by sparing the kingdom from Sennacherib and his army during the siege of Jerusalem.
Jesus was called the wonderful one, counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and prince of peace.
Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:5
Proof:
Luke 4:22; Matthew 13:54, 1:23, 11:20; John 8:58, 16:33
The titles belong to both Hashem and Hezekiah.
The titles “the wondrous adviser, the mighty Hashem, the everlasting Father” are all related to Hashem. The title “the prince of peace” is the only one that refers to the child himself.
Wondrous refers to the wonder of the sun going backwards on Hashem’s command when Hezekiah was miraculously cured from his illness.
Isaiah 38:8: Behold I return the shade of the steps that it went down on the steps of Ahaz by the sun backwards ten steps, and the sun returned ten steps on the steps that it had descended.
Adviser refers to the time when Hezekiah and his staff came up with a plan when Sennacherib sieged Jerusalem.
II Chronicles 32:3: And he took counsel with his officers and his mighty men to stop up the waters of the fountains that were outside the city, and they assisted him.
Mighty Hashem – which can also be translated as Mighty Hero – refers to the destruction of Sennacherib’s army.
II Chronicles 32:21: And the Lord sent an angel, and he destroyed every mighty warrior and ruler and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria, and he returned shamefacedly to his land, and he entered the temple of his god, and some of his own issue felled him there with the sword.
Everlasting Father alludes to the fact that due to Hezekiah’s righteousness, the Davidic dynasty was prolonged and has been preserved for the eternal future.
II Chronicles 32:22: And the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all, and He led them from roundabout.
Prince of Peace refers to the prolonged peace that occurred during the reign of Hezekiah.
II Chronicles 30:25: And the entire congregation of Judah and the priests and the Levites and the entire congregation that came from Israel, and the strangers that came from the land of Israel, and those who dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.
How can this refer to a prince of peace?
Matthew 10:34: [Jesus said] "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. …”
Jesus was an heir to David’s eternal throne. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:6
Proof:
Matthew 1:1,6
Jesus is ineligible for the throne of David.
Jesus is not eligible for David’s throne. He is not a direct, biological descendent of David.
Matthew 1:18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus – in the genealogy of Matthew – is a descendent of Jeconiah.
Matthew 1:12: And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel.
However in Jeremiah 22:30 we see that the descendants of Jeconiah are cut off from ever sitting on the throne of David. Therefore, Jesus is not eligible for David’s throne.
Jeremiah 22:30: So said the Lord: Inscribe this man [Jeconiah] childless, a man who will not prosper in his days, for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David or ruling anymore in Judah.
This prophecy was about Hezekiah.
Hezekiah’s role was to bring Judah back from their wickedness and lead the righteous remnant. This verse speaks of the wonders that Hashem did for Hezekiah by sparing the kingdom from Sennacherib and his army during the siege of Jerusalem.
Jesus established an everlasting kingdom. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:6
Proof:
Luke 1:32-33
Jesus never established a kingdom.
Jesus never established an eternal kingdom. Jesus was never a king. This is not a prophecy that was ever fulfilled by him.
Jesus had a character of justice. new
Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:6
Proof:
John 5:30
Righteousness comes from the Father.
Jesus is saying that his judgment is righteous because it comes from the Father. He is not claiming a character of justice because he is a god.
Jesus was a Nazarene.
Prophecy:
Isaiah 11:1
Proof:
Matthew 2:23; Luke 3:23,32
The Nazirite.
The verse from Matthew supposedly refers to this particular prophecy.
Judges 13:5: “…Because you shall conceive, and bear a son; and a razor shall not come upon his head, for a Nazirite to God shall the lad be from the womb; and he will begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines."
The word used in Judges is Nazirite – someone who has taken the Nazirite vows as described in Number 6:1-21. Jesus was not a Nazirite.
The prophecy of the Nazerene.
The verse in Matthew speaks of the prophets saying "He shall be called a Nazarene." The problem is that there is no such prophecy. The city of Nazareth is never mentioned in the Tanach.
Jesus lived a sinless and non-violent life.
Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:4-6
Proof:
I John 3:5; I Peter 2:22
Jesus did indeed sin.
Honoring the father and mother
Leviticus 19:3: Every man shall fear his mother and his father, and you shall observe My Sabbaths. I am the Lord, your God.
Matthew 10:34-37: (34) Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. (35) For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; (36) and 'a man's enemies will be those of his [own] household.' (37) He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
Attitude toward Gentiles
Exodus 22:20: And you shall not mistreat a stranger, nor shall you oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Matthew 15:22-27: (22) And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed." (23) But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us." (24) But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (25) Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" (26) But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw [it] to the little dogs." (27) And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."
Not adding to, subtracting from, or changing the Torah
Deuteronomy 13:1: Everything I command you that you shall be careful to do it. You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it.
Deuteronomy 24:1: When a man takes a wife and is intimate with her, and it happens that she does not find favor in his eyes because he discovers in her an unseemly [moral] matter, and he writes for her a bill of divorce and places it into her hand, and sends her away from his house...
Matthew 19:9: And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.
Exodus 20:10: ...but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord, your God; you shall perform no labor, neither you, your son, your daughter, your manservant, your maidservant, your beast, nor your stranger who is in your cities.
Matthew 12:1: At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.
Jesus did indeed commit violent acts.
Matthew 21:12: Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
Mark 11:15-16: (15) So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. (16) And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple.
Luke 19:45: Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it...
John 2:15: When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables.
Jesus died for our sins.
Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:11
Proof:
Mark 10:45
Man shall only be punished for his own sins.
Ezekiel 18:20: The soul that sins, it shall die; a son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, and a father shall not bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
Hashem does not require blood sacrifices and human sacrifices are absolutely against Hashem's Law.
Ezekiel 33:11: Say to them: As I live, says the Lord God, I do not wish for the death of the wicked, but for the wicked to repent of his way so that he may live. Repent, repent of your evil ways, for why should you die, O house of Israel!
Jeremiah 36:3: Perhaps the house of Judah will hear all the evil that I plan to do to them, in order that they should repent, each man of his evil way, and I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Hosea 14:3: Take words with yourselves and return to the Lord. Say, "You shall forgive all iniquity and teach us [the] good [way], and let us render [for] bulls [the offering of] our lips.
Jeremiah
Jesus was a descendant of David.
Prophecy: Jeremiah 23:5-8
Proof:
Matthew 1:1,6
Jesus does not come from the line of David since Joseph is not the biological father of Jesus.
If one believes that Jesus was born of a virgin then he had no tribal lineage since (1) Hashem is not of any tribe and (2) the tribal lineage is passed on exclusively through the biological father.
Numbers 1:18: ...and they assembled all the congregation on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees according to their families according to their fathers' houses; according to the number of names, a head count of every male from twenty years old and upward.
Numbers 36:7: Thus, the inheritance of the children of Israel will not be transferred from tribe to tribe, for each person from the children of Israel will remain attached to the inheritance of his father's tribe.
There will be a new set of laws, a new contract, with man.
Prophecy:
Jeremiah 31:30
Proof:
The "New Testament" is called the "Brit Chadasha" which is Hebrew for "new covenant".
The “new” covenant is described beginning in verse 32. The covenant that Christianity speaks about is nowhere to be found within this description.
Jeremiah 31:32: For this is the covenant that I will form with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will place My law in their midst and I will inscribe it upon their hearts, and I will be their God and they shall be My people.
There are two Messianic prophecies attached to this "new" covenant that have yet to be fulfilled.
Jeremiah 31:33: And no longer shall one teach his neighbor or [shall] one [teach] his brother, saying, "Know the Lord," for they shall all know Me from their smallest to their greatest, says the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember.
Jeremiah 31:37-39: (37) Behold days are coming, says the Lord, and the city shall be built to the Lord, from the tower of Hananel until the gate of the corner. (38) And the measuring line shall go out further opposite it upon the hill of Gareb, and it shall turn to Goah. (39) And the whole valley of the dead bodies and the ash and all the fields until the Kidron Valley, until the corner of the Horse Gate to the east, shall be holy to the Lord; it shall never again be uprooted or torn down forever.
Jonah
Jesus spent three days and nights in the tomb.
Prophecy:
Jonah 2:1: And the Lord appointed a huge fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.
Proof:
Matthew 28:1,6: (1) Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. ... (6) He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Mark 16:1,6: (1) Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. ... (6) But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
Luke 24:1,6: (1) Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. ... (6) He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,...
John 20:1-2: (1) Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. (2) Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him."
Jesus was not in the tomb three days and three nights.
If Jesus was crucified on Friday as traditionally believed and was raised on Sunday, he did not spend three days and nights in the tomb. He only spent two full nights, one full day, and two partial days in the tomb.
Judges
Jesus was a Nazrene.
Prophecy:
Judges 13:5
Proof:
Matthew 2:23
Nazirite vows.
The word used in Judges is Nazirite (נְזִיר) – someone who has taken the Nazirite vows.
The Nazirite vow is explain in Numbers 6:1-21. The vow entails the following:
Refrain from eating food or drinking any liquid from new or aged wine (verses 3-4)
Refrain from cutting one’s hair (verse 5)
Refrain from coming into contact with the dead (verses 6-12)
At the end of the period of the vow, the Nazirite shall bring a burnt offering, a sin offering, a peace offering, and a meal offering to the Temple and shave off his hair (verses 13-21)
Jesus did not do any of these things. Jesus was not a Nazirite which is what is being spoken about in this verse from Judges.
Non-existent prophecy.
The verse in Matthew speaks of the prophets saying "He shall be called a Nazarene." The problem is that there is no such prophecy.
The city of Nazareth is never mentioned in the Tanach.
Micah
Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
Prophecy:
Micah 5:1-2
Proof:
Matthew 2:1
Micah speaks of Bethlehem as the Messiah’s place of origin since this is David’s birthplace and the Messiah will be a descendant of David.
Isaiah 11:1-9: (1) And a shoot shall spring forth from the stem of Jesse, and a twig shall sprout from his roots. (2) And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and heroism, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. (3) And he shall be animated by the fear of the Lord, and neither with the sight of his eyes shall he judge, nor with the hearing of his ears shall he chastise. (4) And he shall judge the poor justly, and he shall chastise with equity the humble of the earth, and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips he shall put the wicked to death. (5) And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith the girdle of his loins. (6) And a wolf shall live with a lamb, and a leopard shall lie with a kid; and a calf and a lion cub and a fatling [shall lie] together, and a small child shall lead them. (7) And a cow and a bear shall graze together, their children shall lie; and a lion, like cattle, shall eat straw. (8) And an infant shall play over the hole of an old snake and over the eyeball of an adder, a weaned child shall stretch forth his hand. (9) They shall neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mount, for the land shall be full of knowledge of the Lord as water covers the sea bed.
I Chronicles 22:9-10: (9) Behold a son will be born to you; he will be a man of peace, and I shall give him peace from all his enemies around about, for Solomon will be his name, and I shall give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. (10) He shall build a House in My Name, and he shall be to Me as a son, and I to him as a Father, and I shall prepare the throne of his kingdom forever.'
I Samuel
Jesus was an anointed king.
Prophecy:
I Samuel 2:10
Proof:
Matthew 28:18; John 12:15
This entire chapter is Hannah's prayer.
I Samuel 2:1: And Hannah prayed and said: "My heart has rejoiced through the Lord; My horn has been raised by the Lord. My mouth is opened wide against my enemies, For I have rejoiced in Your salvation.
Who did Hannah give birth to? Why Samuel!
We see in verse one that the child Hannah is praying for is called Hashem’s horn.
Samuel is a judge. He rules according to Hashem’s laws and guidance.
I Samuel 7:3: And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, saying, "If with all your heart, you are returning to the Lord, remove the foreign gods from your midst, and the Ashtaroth, and direct your heart toward the Lord, and serve Him alone, and He will save you from the hand of the Philistines.
Samuel is also prophet – therefore he is a Moshiach – an anointed one.
I Samuel 3:20-21: (20) And all Israel from Dan to Beer Sheba, knew that Samuel was established as a prophet to the Lord. (21) And the Lord continued to appear in Shiloh, for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh with the word of the Lord.
If one reads the entire chapter and the chapters following, one will realize that this supposed prophecy is talking about Samuel.
II Samuel
Jesus was from David's seed.
Prophecy:
II Samuel 7:12
Proof:
Matthew 1:1,6
This prophecy is referring to Solomon.
II Samuel 7:13-16: (13) He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. (14) I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son; so that when he goes astray I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of Adam. (15) But My mercy shall not depart from him as I withdrew it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. (16) And your house and your kingdom shall be confirmed forever before you; your throne shall be established forever."
This seed of David will build a house for God.
I Kings 8:12-13: (12) Then Solomon said, "The Lord said that He would dwell in the thick darkness. (13) I have surely built You a house to dwell in; a settled place for You to dwell in forever."
This seed of David’s will go astray and be corrected by God. (Christians claim that Jesus never sinned.)
I Kings 11:4, 11-12: And it was at the time of Solomon's old age, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not whole with the Lord, His God, like the heart of David his father. … (11) And the Lord said to Solomon, "For as this has been with you, and you have not observed My covenant and My statutes which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and I shall give it to your servant. (12) However, in your days I will not do this, for the sake of David your father; from the hands of your son I shall tear it.
It is very clear that this supposed messianic prophecy is really talking about Solomon.
Jesus is not of the line of David.
Jesus supposedly did not have a biological father.
Matthew 1:18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
However, the tribal lineage (in this case from David’s line) comes only from the biological father.
Numbers 1:18: and they assembled all the congregation on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees according to their families according to their fathers' houses; according to the number of names, a head count of every male from twenty years old and upward.
This means, that in the simplest example, Jesus is found not to be from David’s seed.
Jesus was the son of Hashem.

Jesus was from David's house whose throne will be established forever.
Prophecy:
II Samuel 7:16
Proof:
Luke 3:31; Revelation 22:16
Jesus never served as a king and had no access to David's throne.
Jesus is not a descendant of David.
Matthew 1:18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
However, the tribal lineage (in this case from David’s line) comes only from the biological father.

This means, that in the simplest example, Jesus is found not to be from David’s seed and has no legitimacy to the eternal throne.
Jesus had gentiles flock to him.
Prophecy:
II Samuel 22:44-45
Proof:
Matthew 8:10
This entire chapter is David praising God for delivering him from his enemies.
II Samuel 22:1: And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul…
Verse 44 states “You have allowed me to escape from the contenders amongst my people…” Did this happen to Jesus?
Matthew 27:20, 26 (20) But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. … (26) Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered [Him] to be crucified.
Obviously Jesus did not escape from the “contenders amongst [his] people”.
This part of the verse refers to David escaping from Doeg, Ahithophel, Saul, and the Ziphites.
Verse 45 – in context – refers to David speaking about all his enemies who hear of him and Hashem’s strength and protection of David. These people who do not know David but hear of him will be so fearful that they would obey his orders.
Zechariah
Joshua is symbolic of things to come - that "I am going to bring my servant the Branch."
Proof:
Zechariah 3:8
The "Shoot" refers to Zerubbabel.
Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, is insignificant in the king’s court, but Hashem will make his greatness burgeon. Hashem will also give him favor in the eyes of the king, so that he will grant Zerubbabel’s request for the building of the Temple and the city.
Zechariah 4:6-10: (6) And he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying: 'Not by military force and not by physical strength, but by My spirit,' says the Lord of Hosts. (7) Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you sink to a plain! He will bring out the stone of the main architect, with shouts of grace, grace to it." (8) And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: (9) Zerubbabel's hands founded this house, and his hands shall complete [it], and you shall know that the Lord of Hosts sent me to you. (10) For, whoever despised the day of small things shall rejoice and see the plummet in Zerubbabel's hand; these, sevenfold; the eyes of the Lord are roving to and fro throughout all the earth.
Haggai 1:14-15: (14) And the Lord inspired the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shaltiel, the governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak the High Priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they came and performed labor in the house of the Lord of Hosts, their God (15) on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth [month], in the second year of King Darius.
Jesus, as a sacrifice, “will remove the sin of this land in a single day."
Proof:
Zechariah 3:9
"One day" refers to a lack of knowledge as to exactly when the Second Temple will be built.
The foundation stone for the Second Temple had been laid in the days of King Cyrus. However, the actual building of the Temple was abruptly stopped.
Ezra 4:23-24: (23) Then, since the interpretation of the letter of Artaxerxes the king was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companies, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and they stopped them with force and might. (24) Then the work of the House of God, which was in Jerusalem, was stopped, and it was suspended until the second year of the reign of Darius, the king of Persia.
Jesus was the "Branch" who will rebuild the Temple and reign as priest and king.
Proof:
Zechariah 6:12-13
The "Shoot" refers to Zerubbabel.
Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, is insignificant in the king’s court, but Hashem will make his greatness burgeon. Hashem will also give him favor in the eyes of the king, so that he will grant Zerubbabel’s request for the building of the Temple and the city.

There are two separate people being spoken about in these verses.
The Temple will be built by the "Shoot" who is the ruler (Zerubabbel) and there will also be a priest (Joshua).
Zechariah 4:9-10: (9) Zerubbabel's hands founded this house, and his hands shall complete [it], and you shall know that the Lord of Hosts sent me to you. (10) For, whoever despised the day of small things shall rejoice and see the plummet in Zerubbabel's hand; these, sevenfold; the eyes of the Lord are roving to and fro throughout all the earth.
Zechariah 3:1: And He showed me Joshua, the High Priest, standing before the angel of the Lord. And Satan was standing on his right, to accuse him.
Haggai 1:12: And Zerubbabel the son of Shaltiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak the High Priest, and all the remnant of the people heeded the command of the Lord their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people feared the Lord.
Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.
Prophecy:
Zechariah 9:9
Proof:
Matthew 21:7; Mark 11:7; Luke 19:35; John 12:14
This is not exclusive to Jesus.
Many, many people rode into Jerusalem on a donkey so even if though this verse is about the messiah it cannot only be about Jesus.
The prophecy continues.
The prophecy continues into the very next verse.
Zechariah 9:10: And I will cut off the chariots from Ephraim, and the horses from Jerusalem; and the bow of war shall be cut off. And he shall speak peace to the nations, and his rule shall be from the sea to the west and from the river to the ends of the earth.
This explains that when the Messiah arrives on a donkey, it will be a demonstration that he will be exercising his dominion over the entire world and the implements of war will be destroyed.
Jesus was not a triumphant world leader.
Matthew 27:31: And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His [own] clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.
Jesus also did not speak of peace.
Matthew 10:34: Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
The thirty pieces of silver that was paid to Judas.
Prophecy:
Zechariah 11:12-13
Proof:
Matthew 26:14-15
The thirty pieces of silver.
The Book of Matthew is the only one of the gospels to mention the thirty pieces of silver. If it was a prophecy that was fulfilled why is it only recorded in one book?
There is also conflict as to what actually happened with the money.
Matthew 27:5: Then he [Judas] threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Acts 1:18: Now this man [Judas] purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.
So, did he "fulfill the prophecy" as is written in Matthew or did he actually not return the money as is written in Acts?
The silver is not actually silver.
This passage is speaking about the righteous among the Jews (those who kept Hashem’s mitzvot). The fee refers to the fulfillment of the mitzvot which is payment to Hashem. If this payment is made, then Hashem will not forsake the righteous. The thirty silver pieces refers to the thirty righteous ones. By throwing the deed of these thirty people into the Temple, to the treasurer, Zechariah symbolized that the Temple would be rebuilt because of their merits.
The treasurer is the one who smelts the coins – which is why the word הַיּוֹצֵר is generally translated as “potter”. Why the number thirty? Abraham was promised that there would be no generation that had less than thirty righteous men. Hashem is clearly chiding the wicked amongst the people. When Zechariah threw the deeds of the thirty righteous into the Temple, Hashem declared that it was because of these thirty that the end of the Babylonian exile would come and the Temple would be rebuilt.
Jesus was betrayed by his disciples.
Prophecy:
Zechariah 13:7
Proof:
Matthew 26:56
Jesus was not the shepherd.
In this verse, “shepherd” refers to the leaders of the nations who were Hashem’s colleagues. Hashem entrusted His flock (Israel) to the shepherd. However, instead of protecting the flock, the shepherd harmed the flock and Hashem released the sword against the shepherd. The flock was then able to escape and Hashem turns his vengeance against the shepherd (nations). This entire chapter relates to events that will happen in the End of Days. |
